Miu Manazuru is a cheerful, clumsy and often clueless student in Ayane's class at Tategami High School.
Introduction[]
Miu has few wants or desires apart from spending time with her friends Chinami Watanabe and Naoko Ito, going on dates, and managing the school's soccer team.
Background[]
Miu's Gate power first manifested itself when she attempted to escape from the excessive attentions of one of her dates. That same night, Ayane discovered her as well, and she was later recruited to the new A.E.G.I.S. by Reiji Kageyama.
After being paired up with Ayane, Miu started to spend time with her when not fighting invaders. When Miu was in Ayane's presence, she would often ask if she could actually do anything useful at all, though Ayane would often either ignore her or just tell her how worthless she thought she was. Miu, upon being asked by Ayane what she was fighting for, she would answer that she wanted to make everyone happy and was simply curious. Despite the flying power her Gate gave her, Miu often referred to it as "hoping" (like a frog or dog) rather than actual flight (like a bird).
Only after Yukino dies and her friends become invaders does Miu decide that she has a real purpose to jump (save her friends and stop the fighting), instead of merely using it to run away. This new conviction gives her confidence to make great leaps instead of small hops. However she still needs to jump off a surface to propel herself.
In the final battle, Ayane helps Miu unlock her real potential by making more and more confident leaps up the tower assisted by the Gate of Wind. Finally at the apex of their last jump, Miu is able to activate her gate in mid air (which is not a mere jump, but self propulsion and flight) to reach the final battle with Ghost Girl.
Miu's honor is restored because she finally is able to be confident in herself and be truly useful in battle instead of her old clumsy and timid self.
Trivia[]
- Similar to Kaoru Konoe and Chotaro Banba, Miu is unique among Gatekeepers in that there was no apparent severe trauma needed for her to manifest her Gate power. While it did manifest when she was trying to avoid her boyfriend, a far less traumatic experience than most Gatekeepers.
