For the Smiles of Tomorrow is the twenty fourth episode of the Gatekeepers series. In syndication it aired as the series' final episode.

Synopsis[]
The final barrier to Ruriko’s heart has been broken, producing the Black Minus Gate of Massacre. With Shadow holding the country in the palm of his hands, Shun makes one final attempt to redeem Reiji and Megumi, rescue Ruriko and protect his family and friends.
As the team races to their final battle there are many surprises that reveal themselves on their path to the ultimate conflict. Old friends return to help, and hidden talents come to bear.
Trivia[]
- Despite his apparent demise, it's revealed in the Gate Keepers 1985 novel that Reiji survived the vortex thanks to Megumi.
- Bancho finally develops a gate ability when trying to protect Kaoru.
- Though thought dead, Kaiser Kikai and Count Akuma are later revived in the sequel series Gatekeepers 21.
